Degrees Of Separation: Thousands Rejected

Thousands of aspiring tertiary students have missed out in today's release of university offers, squeezed between rising demand and fewer places. Fearing Federal Government penalties that start next year for carrying too many students, universities in NSW and the ACT have tightened their undergraduate intake for 2004. They are offering a seat in the lecture halls to only 46,227 of the more than 78,000 applicants.
